IP or analogue
An IP camera gives higher resolution and runs on data cable. An analogue one uses the coax already in the building, so nothing has to be chased into walls. Which pays depends on what is already there.

Outdoors and indoors
Outdoor cameras take frost and rain and light the scene at night; indoor ones are smaller and quieter. We plan the layout so the views join up and no blind spot is left between them.

Where a camera must not point
The view belongs on your own property. Recording the street or a neighbour's yard is processing personal data beyond a household activity — the Court of Justice said so in C-212/13 (Ryneš). So we aim and mask the cameras to keep other people's land out of frame.

Recording and how long it is kept
The recorder is chosen for the number of cameras and for how many days the footage has to survive. A longer period means a bigger disk, not a better system — and with cameras a proportionate period is a GDPR requirement, not our preference.

What you see at night
The night image is where a camera system is made or lost. Infrared illumination reaches the distance the maker states in ideal conditions; in rain and fog it reaches less. So at handover we show the actual night view rather than the catalogue.

In an apartment building
In a shared entrance a camera system belongs to the owners: it needs a resolution, a named person responsible for the footage and a notice at the door. The technology is the easier half — without those three the system runs unlawfully.

Common questions
Questions about cameras
Do cameras need the internet?
Not to record — the recorder works without it. The internet is only needed so you can look at the cameras from a phone when you are away.
Can the system be extended later?
Yes, if it is planned for. The recorder is chosen with spare inputs and the cable runs are laid so another camera can be added without chasing walls again.
Do you record sound as well?
Sound is not recorded as standard. Recording what people say is a heavier intrusion than a picture and is rarely of any use afterwards, so we enable it only on request and with notice given.
Must I tell anyone about the cameras?
Where the view covers a space other people use, yes — a notice belongs at the entrance. On your own land, where nobody else has access, that duty does not arise.
How long may footage be kept?
Only as long as the purpose needs. A few days to a fortnight is usual; anything longer needs a reason, and the size of the disk is not one.
Is the night picture in colour?
Not in infrared mode — it is black and white. Colour at night comes from cameras with their own white light, which is more conspicuous: sometimes an advantage, sometimes exactly what you do not want.
Can a camera go in a shared entrance?
It can, with the agreement of the owners and a set retention period. Usually one camera covers the entrance; one pointed at the door of a single flat is hard to justify.
