Common questions
Questions about alarms and cameras
May a camera record the street or a neighbour?
No. A camera on your own house may cover your own property; the moment the frame includes public space or somebody else's land, the household exemption no longer applies and the operator takes on the duties of a controller under the GDPR. This follows from the Court of Justice judgment in C-212/13 (Ryneš), which decided exactly such a case. We therefore plan positions and angles so that the frames end at the boundary — and where that is impossible, part of the image can be permanently masked in the camera itself.
Can the alarm be extended later?
Yes, and it is one of the reasons we fit the Jablotron 100+. Detectors go into the new part and the keypad gains another segment — the button with the green and red state for that part of the building. The system carries twenty of them, so an extension is an addition rather than a rebuild.
Can I see who disarmed the alarm?
Yes. Every disarming requires a chip or a code, so the system knows which credential was used and when. In a home it usually answers ordinary questions — whether the children are back from school; in a business, who unlocked in the morning and who locked up at night.
Do the old cables have to be replaced for cameras?
Not always. We fit both IP and analogue cameras, and that is the difference: where coaxial wiring already exists, the analogue route avoids chasing walls, while a new installation is better served by network cable, which carries the higher resolutions. Which one suits your building we say after a survey — anything else would be a guess.
How long are camera recordings kept?
As long as the purpose the system runs for requires — keeping them longer is no longer justified and conflicts with the GDPR principle of minimisation. In practice, for protecting property, the usual period runs to days rather than months. Technically it is set by disk capacity, resolution and the number of cameras, so it is decided during the design.
Cameras on a cottage or a small business?
Yes. We install IP and analogue cameras, indoors and outdoors — a family house, a weekend cottage, a workshop or a warehouse. We help you choose and design the coverage to suit the building and the budget.
How do I watch the recordings?
Through the Hikvision app, on your phone or your computer, wherever you are. The app is free, and the recording runs on a network recorder at your place, not at ours.
How is the alarm operated?
Four ways: the keypad with its segments, the MyJABLOTRON phone app, the web app, and a two-way key fob. The segments on the keypad work like a traffic light — green means it is off and you can move around the house freely. The same keypad also starts things that have nothing to do with the alarm: the lights, the garage door, the irrigation. The app is free.
Who can reach the recordings in a block?
The recorder goes into a lockable RACK data cabinet, because a recording is personal data. We hand the access credentials to whoever the owners’ association or the property manager names.
